This blog post was written by: Sarasota Roofing

There are many ways of doing what one can to be more environmentally friendly and to help preserve the planet, and now roofing is one of them. Going green, like charity, begins at home and many people are now choosing to install eco-friendly roofing options that are good for the environment.

The first option is that of the innovative solar roof shingles that use photovoltaic cells to transform solar energy to provide electricity for your home. It is advised that they be used on the south side of the roof to utilize the maximum power of the sun through as much exposure as is possible.

The advantage of this form of energy is of course that it is completely renewable, produces no waste, has no harmful effects and is a green source of energy that helps the environment. The best part is, the government subsidizes this form of electricity generation to make it worth the cost of using the photovoltaic energy and in a few years it is projected to cost as much as grid electricity, making it a good investment now.

Another interesting choice is the green roof, which involves coating the entire surface of your roof with plants, making it literally a green roof. This may sound avant-garde but can be quite pleasing to see. These plants also help increase greenness in urban regions, restore natural habitats for birds, reduce the levels of heat building and use up carbon dioxide. A useful feature is the ability to soak up as much as 95% of rainwater, reducing runoff and water damage to the building.

If you’re looking to install a green roof, there are two options you can choose from: extensive and intensive. The former uses soil and creates an environment that sustains plants, herbs, grasses and trees that grow on their own and cannot be used for interactive purposes.

Intensive green roofs on the other hand are more costly and simultaneously more environmentally friendly options that enable recreational activity and interactive behavior. These roofs use soil to sustain the growth of a larger variety of trees and plants and have the ability to sustain much larger trees.

The greatest advantage of these roofs in the short term is that they replace the heat-absorbing materials commonly used for roofs, such as concrete, slate and asphalt. This helps beat the common problem of hot spots in towns, cities and urban areas. When sunlight is captured, instead of heating up the building, solar roofs transform the energy into usable power. Other eco-friendly options you can avail include recycled materials and shingles as well as wood shakes. Wood shakes, particularly those made of cedar, provide twice the insulation asphalt does and grow more beautiful with age instead of fading, becoming damaged and needing replacement.

Whichever option you go for, you can help reduce waste or help offset the damage inflicted by urban centers and cities. If you decide to go with asphalt roofing, you can still go green by choosing a variety that will remain durable for decades to come.

Article By: Best Naples Dry Cleaner

Have you ever wondered what happens when you drop off your clothes at your dry cleaners? Have you ever contemplated how strange the idea of cleaning something without water seems? The actual process is a little less complicated and a little more misleading than you would think. It actually uses a liquid solvent but is called ‘dry’ because it involves no water.

As all ingenious inventions involve an element of the accidental, dry cleaning was no different. In the year 1855, the curiosity of a Frenchman named Jean Baptiste Jolly was piqued when he noticed how clean his table cloth became when his maid accidentally dropped a kerosene lamp on its surface. And so dry cleaning, one of the most inventive contributions of the French (and believe it or not, they did not invent French Fries) was born.

The process of dry cleaning has evolved since then, replacing the original materials of kerosene and gasoline with newer, safer solvents to clean clothing items. Following the Second World War, synthetic solvents such as carbon tetrachloride and trichloroethylene were replaced by perchlorethylene.

The dry cleaning industry took off, as this solvent not only provided a safer cleaning process, it did not require significant capital investment, took up less factory space and was fast and thus convenient.

Your dry cleaning is dealt with in the following way:

The employees attach small tags or labels to some part of your clothing, usually the shirt collar, to make your clothes identifiable from other customers’ clothing. The tag may also include the date the clothes were brought in and the date they will be ready to be picked up.

The items are also inspected for pre-existing holes, rips and missing buttons so that the dry cleaner is not blamed for something that is not their fault. Sometimes special labels are attached with clothing that requires special attention, such as for clothes that are especially sensitive or have stains that require extra cleaning.

The pre-treatment process begins, and this involves a check for stains on the clothing and for marks that are treated so that they are easily removed during the actual cleaning process.

The dry cleaning begins. The clothes are put in a machine and the solvent is added. This cleaning machine is a specially designed washer and dryer that runs on a motor and can hold up to 45 kg of weight.

Following the dry cleaning process is the post spotting process, which like the pre-treatment process deals with stains. This time though, the stains are after the actual cleaning, so the lingering stains that prove to be more resilient are the ones that have to be removed.

The dry cleaning process then involves a post dry cleaning finishing process in which the clothes are pressed, folded, packaged, steamed, wrapped and other finishing touches are applied.

This process is how you get the crisp, fresh, perfectly pressed laundry at the end. The freshness, odor and quality of your dry cleaning depend on the expertise of your cleaner and how he controls the solvent and the moisture in the actual process.

Article supported by Naples Furnished Apartments & Corp Housing

Anytime you have a place that needs illumination where traditional wiring would be difficult or expensive, is when to use the solar powered lighting. This type of lighting works anywhere it can draw in the sunlight to get power. However, it is not just in decorative lighting where solar can be used. Even flashlights today can be solar powered.

The benefit of having a solar flashlight is that you never have to worry about not having batteries. Just set it out in the sun and let it charge. You can get various styles and sizes of these to fit your needs. There is also a waterproof version that can float! A combination of a flashlight, charger and radio is on the market too.

The solar powered lighting comes in camping lights for you convenience. One of the models will take about 4 to 5 hours to solar charge and will give you 8 hours of use. It comes with a separate solar panel. It can also receive an AC/DC charge in about 1.5 hours.

Then there are a variety of garden lights that can be used to light up not only the garden areas but also the walkways, pathways, patios and driveway on your property. Since there is no complicated installation that needs to be done, these lights are working in a short time.

Now for a dual-purchase model of solar powered lighting turn to the bug zapper. This not only lights up the area but zaps the bugs too. It is powered by solar so it is easy to install anywhere in the yard. It does come with built-in Ni-cad batteries that are rechargeable. After being charged in the sun all day, it will work for about 8 hours at night. It contains an LED lamp.

Benefits of Using Lighting Powered by the Sun

One of the benefits of using lights powered by solar is that fact there is not wiring to be done. This means these lights can be used anywhere. Some of the models do not even use any battery backup so this does away with purchasing batteries. Solar power is free! After buying the lights there is no cost in running them unless they have rechargeable batteries that occasionally need to be replaced. Using traditional electricity raises your electric bill too much to really enjoy outdoor lights done in the old-fashioned way. So use the solar lights instead.

Energy in High Demand Today

The energy today is in high demand worldwide. With more people living on the earth than ever before this makes perfect sense. However, many areas of the world still cannot get traditional electricity. This is where solar power offers a solution. Also the fossil fuels are used to create traditional electricity, and they are becoming depleted with the high demand for it.

So now you know about what solar powered lighting has to offer you and some good points about using it. It is better for the earth too because it does not pollute the environment.

Do Realtors cringe when listing a rural chunk of land for sale for fear of a long sale process? Well they shouldn’t if they know how to sell it.

Do buyers browse the MLS for rural land listings? Not often because most rural property won’t be listed there. Because of differences in financing options and types of buyers, it’s often as though rural real estate is from a different planet than conventional residential real estate. It’s often a waste of time to start a rural property search on the MLS because there just isn’t much there.

As noted in a news article on the rural real estate website LandsofAmerica.com United Van Lines reported that many people are moving out of the New England area and into areas that have a larger percentage of rural land. Also, as we said in our recent entry about the coming rural real estate pricing boom, it’s a fact that more and more people are moving to rural areas for a variety of very good reasons.

While the MLS isn’t a great place to find rural property, that doesn’t mean that buyers aren’t scouring the Internet for information on listings. Often, buyers also need to enlist the help of several different local agents in different geographical areas who specialize in their respective rural listings. This can add a great deal of stress for the buyer to manage these different agents without causing a conflict of interest. Obviously, this isn’t a very effective way to locate a rural piece of property, but for a long time, this was the only way.

Fortunately, over the last several years, there has been a movement to aggregate Denver furnished apartments from around the country into one central source that was in tune with the quirks and listing requirements of large tracts of rural land that often don’t even have a mappable address. Rural buyers are different from conventional buyers – their buying needs are different, their financing needs are different, and the length of their shopping time is different. What has made the difference in serving the needs of rural buyers and sellers is the development of Internet companies that do the legwork of networking with rural agents around the country and bring all of their listings to one place where they are as searchable and share-worthy as their counterpart, the conventional MLS.

Sites such as www.landsofamerica.com are in place to be a low cost, but highly effective means of getting rural listings to the potential clients and buyers for whom they are perfect. For agents, the often repeated act of hoping that the right rural buyer comes along for their one or two aged rural listings is not the most effective way to make clients happy. Seeking out a niche real estate site that understands rural real estate buyers and sellers is the way to create lasting partnerships with the sellers of these traditionally difficult to sell rural properties.

Okay, good, so now that you understand the power that comes with knowing exactly how to reach the rural buying community, you need to be careful when choosing which website to list with. Hint: They aren’t all created equal. This is something very important, and I’ll cover this in my next post – stay tuned!

Lanyards had military origins dating back to the late 17th and early 18th centuries. They evolved from a utilitarian military tool to a decorative, medal-like emblem in the early part of the 20th century. Today, the lanyard is once again taking upon a purposeful use, especially when it comes to increasing security in places such as schools, government installations and hospitals. The Security ID lanyard is becoming a popular item also used at many public gatherings such as concerts and company or industry sponsored conventions. Neck lanyards are used at such venues so security personnel can make sure the wearer has permission to be in certain areas, such as backstage at a concert, on-track at a race or behind the booth at an industry or company convention. Additionally, individuals attending such events, especially media personnel, have taken to wearing ID lanyards that help qualify access to otherwise prohibited areas.

Lanyard Styles Do Vary

The style a lanyard can take in will vary depending upon several factors such as the type desired, the item and the environment where it is worn. Believe it that waterproof lanyards have been used at water sport events, so these are obviously constructed from materials appropriate for such use. Some are quite simple constructed from a braided fabric that bears but a clip on the end users fasten some type of flat item like an IF badge. However, if the lanyard is to be used for an extended period of time, much stronger clips are needed or a break-away mechanism that allows for the item hanging to easily be attached or removed. A break-away mechanism also serves to increase safety when an item such as a cell phone should be removed for use as opposed to any attempt to stretch the lanyard with the item attached in order to make use of it.

What Can a Lanyard Carry?

Neck lanyards can easily carry a variety of items such as the user’s ID badge, cell phone, building or vehicle keys, MP3 player, digital camera and a pen pr marker. Busy professionals such as hospital personnel benefit from using a lanyard not only to carry their ID, but access keys and a pen. This allows for completely freeing up the user’s hands for all work activity while also providing a &quot;known&quot; location for that always-needed writing implement or door key. A popular use of the lanyard in the world of sports has been the hanging of a whistle around the neck of a game official so it can easily be used when needed. Furthermore, lanyards are great purposeful tools for venues where there is no place to store car keys, locker keys or other items such as at the beach or poolside. Athletes and work-out enthusiasts use lanyards since often the clothing worn has no pockets or placing keys, cell phone and ID inside a pocket during a practice or exercise session creates an uncomfortable sensation.

Neck Lanyards Can Be Customized

People seeking neck lanyards can find many companies specializing in creating a personalized, custom look. You can literally develop a lanyard that is uniquely styled for your business, a specific event or even a charitable cause.

The amazing options for production techniques allows users a virtual unending variety creating a personalized lanyard.

Are you thinking about using lanyards to promote your business? If so, you may be surprised to find that you have many styles that you can choose from today. Of course, some styles work better for certain uses, so it’s important to learn what options are available and which options are best for your needs. Here is a closer look at the styles that most companies now offer when you’re ready to purchase lanyards.

Polyester Lanyards – A Great All Around Option

If you’re looking for a great all around option for your promotion needs, you’ll find that polyester lanyards are an excellent option to consider. They happen to be the most popular option because they are a great combination of quality and low price. The material used is high quality polyester and many colors are available. Once you choose the color you want, your logo and text can be printed on the lanyards so you get a nice look that meets your need. This is a durable and economical option for many uses, which is why it’s such a popular option.

Tubular Lanyards – Comfortable and Budget Friendly

Another of the lanyard styles that are available is tubular lanyards. These are not only comfortable, but they are budget friendly as well. If you’re on a tight budget, this is probably going to be a great option. They’ll give you great promotional gifts without costing as much as some of the other more expensive lanyard styles. Loosely wound polyester is used to make these lanyards into a tube shape. They are large enough to allow you to imprint your design but they don’t use quite as much material. Since they use less material, they are cheaper, making an excellent option for businesses.

Nylon Lanyards – Top Durability and Quality

If you want the top of the line when you buy lanyards for business promotion, you’ll find that nylon lanyards are a great choice. They are of the highest quality and are thicker and shinier than the standard polyester lanyards. You’ll also find that these options will last longer than some of the cheaper options that are available. Because they have such a nice, sleek appearance, they definitely make your logo and text look great. If you have more complex prints and logos that you want to put on your lanyards, this is going to be the best possible choice for you.

Woven Lanyards – a Traditional Option

Woven lanyards are a great option as well if you want to go the traditional route. You get a nice feel and a nice look with this option. While high quality polyester is used to make them, they are actually woven and your text and log get woven into the fabric of the lanyard. This gives you a great look and a traditional style that is comfortable to wear around your neck or wrist.

by Minh D. Tran

A few nights ago, I had a dream. A dream just like any other dream, except for the fact that I was designing my dream in HTML and CSS. I was putting <div> tags up and was floating it right and left. It was weird. I guess after a dream like this, you come to realize that you live web designing. You are a geek. I’m a geek. You realize that you need to find a hobby. Wait a minute, web designing is my hobby.

INSOMNIA OR NOT?

It’s 12:40am on a Tuesday morning and I’m still awake. Well, maybe I shouldn’t say still awake, but more like woke up early. There’s like a dog fight, or rather, an animal fight, or something at the Vet right outside my house. I can’t sleep. I hear cats, birds, hawks (???), dogs, and something that’s making the mixed sound of a monkey and a frog or something. All of them sounds like they’re screaming at the top of the lungs. Arghhhh…it happens almost every freakin night. I have to work tomorrow. No wonder I’ve been so tired lately at work…

RESEARCH ON LINGUISTICS

Aoccdrnig to rscheearch at Cmabrigde uinervtisy, it deosn’t mttaer waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteres are at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a tatol mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit a porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae we do not raed ervey lteter by it slef but the wrod as a wlohe.

IT IS FINISHED!

The last few weeks I have been working on this new design and I think I am just about finished with its last few little details. I’ve added a “functional” login screen, for those who have access to post new blogs. I’ve added an RSS file for those who want to subscribe to my blogs. And going an extra step, I decided to get a new hosting server, hopefully it would be faster than the last.

The format of this webpage is a 3-row website where I have a top row including the banner and the identification of the website, the middle row is where the main content of the website reside, and the bottom row, which includes things like copyrights. The color I chose is a beige-ish background on a maroon foreground. I find this combination of colors to be very warm and easy on the eye.

The 2006 W³ AWARDS: call for entries

The W³ Awards, presented and judged by the International Academy of the Visual Arts, an invitation-only body consisting of top professionals in the marketing and multimedia arts field. The Academy will judge based on a standard of excellence. According to their website, “The W³ is the first major web competition to be accessible to the biggest agencies, the smallest firms, and everyone in between. Small firms are as likely to win as Fortune 500 companies and international agencies.” The competition is open to anybody that works in “creating, designing, maintaining, or promoting websites, online marketing or original content created for the web.” Sounds like a pretty interesting competition to enter.

NEW DESIGN!

by Minh D. Tran

M-TRAN.NET is currently working on a new design and would really appreciate your feedback on anything from colors to navigation to layout. It is not a completely finished website so excuse the broken links and such. Any criticism is more than welcome so here is your chance to trash talk about how ugly you think my new website is. Of course, any positive feedback will also be more than welcome and greatly appreciated.

VIETNAM: a trip to remember

by Minh D. Tran

The last two weeks I visited my homeland Viet-Nam. It was my first time ever meeting my grandparents, along with my other aunts, uncles, and cousins. Vietnam has some beautiful scenic places, food, art, and everything else. But it was so hot that people go to the beach at 5:00 in the morning.

I am so glad I made a trip back home. It is a trip to remember and the best part was meeting my family.

Apple martinis have been a mainstay for quite some time. The growing nightlife and evening happy hour is having a tremendous effect on the way bartenders make drinks. Now, these bartenders are starting to be called so called mixologists that are proficient in mixing different drinks together. The apple martini is no different than a bunch of different mixes and drink names available.

The apple martini has always been a popular cocktail containing vodka, apple juice, apple cider with a sweet and sour mix. Although, it’s a very sweet and refreshing drink, it has the tendency to creep up on people. Some different mixes include the Washington Apple Martini. It’s filled with ice, uses a martini glass, Crown Royal whiskey, an apple mix as well as some cranberry juice. This is a really nice drink to make and it’s best served on chill and shaken not stirred.

Another specialty drink is the Smirnoff Apple Martini. More liquors nowadays have different flavors to add a certain sweet taste, and the Smirnoff has an Apple liquor that provides a kick to your drink. Simply take 1 1/4 ounces of the Smirnoff Green Apple Vodka, 1/4 apple schnapps, a splash of sour mix, and a slice of green apple. This is very popular drink that you’ll see in the clubs, bars, and lounges. The focus is more so on liquor mixes than the actual adding of apple juice or apple cider.

Apple martinis are widely popular even on small screen and big screen. For the widely popular series “Scrubs”, it’s a favorite drink of character Dr. John “J.D.” Dorian. More recently with the movie “Social Network” loosely based on the making of popular social network, Facebook, there was a scene that involved apple martinis. Before the movie, the actual creator of Facebook did not even so much as drink an apple martini. However, after the premier, he not only drank it but made it part of the Facebook logo. These types of messages add a certain young and modern vibe to the rather middle aged drink. As more mixes come about, the apple martini will continue to have a stay in worldwide popular culture.

Solar landscape lighting gives people the added flexibility in outdoor landscape design of not having to worry about how to hide the wires and where to place electric sockets. Now you can place your lights however you please, as long as the solar panel can be connected to them and gets enough sunlight.

Here are a few tips you can incorporate into your outdoor design if you’re looking for ideas of what you can do with your lights.

Spotlights

Spotlights are some of the most versatile forms of lighting and they can take a garden from mundane to spectacular. If you have trees and bushes in your backyard, place your solar lights at the base to cast long, dark shadows. You can also use any other structure, like a statue or birdbath and use the lights to draw attention to it. For added functionality, point the lights to a fence or around the edges of your property, and link them up to security light sensors. This will automatically deter any unwanted intruders from entering, and provide you with aesthetic value as well.

Ambient Lighting

This is the lighting best associated with evening parties on the lawn, and family barbeques. Installing these lights will give you the most savings, as compared to regular electric lights, even though the cost of installing larger solar panels might at first seem daunting.

Since a garden is a large area to cover, you will need larger solar lights, which translates to larger solar panels. The most common panels used in this technique of landscape lighting are top of pole mounts; this means you will have to place you solar lights in positions some distance from the ground. Once installed though, you can enjoy a well-lit garden even after dark.

Foot Lamps

Place foot lamps across your walk way to illuminate the way to your home, even if it is an unpaved path, foot lamps have a way of giving a warm, inviting touch to the entrance of your home. It is important though, to keep them pointed upwards during the daytime so they soak enough solar energy, but apart from that, this option allows you the most flexibility.

If at some point you decide to use these lights somewhere else, or that you need to place fewer or more of them along the path, you can simply by pulling them out of the ground and placing them where you want to.

With solar landscape lighting you will never have to deal with the hassle of electric wires and underground trunking. That leaves you free to explore your creative potential. Best of all they can be moved whenever you want to change the atmosphere of your garden, be added or taken away with ease.

Not only are they convenient but they will save you plenty of money in electricity bills thanks to them being solar. Once they have been purchased, there is no other running costs. Just site them and leave them to it, it couldn’t be easier.
