Hurricane Earl is moving to the west-northwest near 15 mph and this general motion is expected to continue for the next day or so.

A turn to the northwest is expected by early Tuesday.

On this path, the center of Earl will pass near or over the northernmost Leeward Islands early Monday and near the British Virgin Islands later in the day.

Tropical storm conditions are expected to spread across the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico Monday, with hurricane conditions possible Monday night.

Hurricane Earl strengthens, moves toward Caribbean islands

Drier air is still in place across Southwest Florida today. Rain chances today will still be low, but that doesn’t mean totally dry. Yesterday it was Collier County that got those isolated downpours and today is still looks like the farther south you are, the more likely you are to be the one to get that isolated storm.

Otherwise, today will start with mostly sunny skies and we’ll see just a few clouds building through the afternoon. With the sunshine and drier conditions, the temperatures will warm to the mid 90s and the heat index will be near 100 degrees.

The rain chance stays low for Saturday, too.
